THERE’S MORE TO HOT SAUCE.
We think hot sauce should make food more interesting - not just hotter.
Mastodon makes sauces built around distinctive ingredients, unexpected combinations, and the simple idea that there is always something new worth discovering. A great hot sauce shouldn’t overpower what you’re eating. It should open it up.
That curiosity has taken us from farmers markets and food festivals to store shelves across the country, and now to Hot Ones. But the idea behind Mastodon hasn’t changed: make seriously good sauce, follow flavor wherever it leads, and never make something just because it’s what hot sauce is supposed to be.
FOR THOSE WHO ROAM.
Mastodon started in Upstate New York, but the story behind it reaches back generations.
Founder Benjamin Williams named the company in part for his great-grandfather, Frank A. Spicer - a farmer, builder, traveler, and relentlessly curious person who lived to 106. His life left behind a family ethos of making things, going places, and staying curious about the world around you.
We don’t try to recreate the past. We carry that spirit forward.
For us, roaming isn’t only about where you go. It’s about what you taste, what you learn, who you meet, and what you discover along the way.
That philosophy shows up in every bottle.
FLAVOR FIRST. ALWAYS.
We start with ingredients and ask what they can do together.
Grapefruit and habanero. Thai chili and miso. Blackberry and Scotch bonnet. Jalapeño and sansho peppercorn.
Some combinations are bright and fresh. Some are savory and deeply layered. Some bring serious heat. But heat is never the whole point.
Every Mastodon sauce is made to earn a permanent place on your table - to go on eggs Tuesday morning, get mixed into a marinade Friday night, show up beside the grill Saturday afternoon, and make you wonder what else you haven’t tried it on yet.
Because the best bottle of hot sauce isn’t the one you survive.
It’s the one you keep reaching for.
KEEP ROAMING.
If Hot Ones brought you here, welcome to the herd.
Thai Chili Miso might be the sauce you recognize. It’s only one part of what we make.
Look around. Try something you wouldn’t normally pick. Put it on something unexpected. Share it with somebody.
There’s a lot more out there.
Be curious. Roam further.
